Task 7 - SFX

My chosen company is Millennium FX.

They create work for film, television, commercials, music promos, theatre and corporate projects.

Millennium FX’s directors, Neill Gorton and Rob Mayor, are multi-award winning artists, with numerous BAFTA and Royal Television Society awards across make-up and special effects categories. Working with them are SFX Producers Kate Walshe and Karen Spencer, Administration by Martina Hawkins, in house design by Chris Goodman along with a team of the industry's best designers, technicians and artists.

They have created work for popular films such as; Saving private ryan, The Wolfman and Gravity and Frankenstein. Also television productions such as; Doctor Who and the Catherine Tate Show.

Their range of work has included prosthetic character make-ups, animatronic and creature effects work, speciality costumes and puppets, prosthetic medical and gore effects, consultation work, design and also industry training.

Task 5

For task 5 we were asked to work in groups, in my group there was myself, Julie, Hazel, Rebecca and Jillian. For this task we were asked to decide on a product that no make up artist should live without. For this we chose a Dermacolour Camouflage Palette. This palette is amazing and has the ability to do a lot of differents things, from covering blemishes, moles, tattoos and also to highlight and contour. We looked online at a few different companies to research on the different price ranges for this product.






                                                       

                                                      

TASK 6

Today I will share with you my 3 favourite makeup artists in Scotland!

First of all I will start with Karen Bowen, with 25 years experience in fashion, editorial, commercial, television and bridal makeup, Karen Bowen is one of the makeup industry's premier professionals.  Having worked in London, Paris and throughout Scotland she has transformed many faces from fashion models to celebrities and bridal parties. I love the work Karen creates on each individual, her makeup is perfect and so inspiring. Karen Bowen appeared in many editorials such as Hair and Beauty, Essentials, Top Sante, Spectrum for Scotland on Sunday, The Best Scottish Weddings and The Scottish Wedding Directory.

Next I have chosen to write about Louise Ballantine. Louise is a Scottish makeup artist based in Glasgow who specialises in wedding makeup. Louise helps over 150 brides every year look perfect for their special day.

TASK 4

I have been asked to give 5 examples of makeup in films that I love (this is a tough one) but here goes...

  First of all I have chosen 'The Exorcism of Emily Rose'. The makeup used in this film is amazing the way the makeup artist has completely changed the actors appearance. The makeup artist to create this look was Dick Smith.

  Next I have 'How The Grinch Stole Christmas'. To create this look it took the makeup artists on set 3 hours to apply the prostethic piece.

I love how the makeup artist has completely changed Brad Pitts appearence, he is completely unrecognisable!

Here we have Lord Voldemort from 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire'.  The makeup artist to create this incredible look was Shaunne Harrison. His outcome of his work here is amazing, I love how he is so skilled and has the ability to create such a dramatic look.

Lastly I have chosen the film 'Edward Scissorhands'. This makeup is quite basic compared to the other ones I have chosen, but I feel like the makeup artist (Ve Neill) has done a great job in creating a scary look but also has the ability to make you feel sympathy towards the character.


Next I will tell you 3 uses of wigs in films that i love!

Firstly I have chosen the film 'White Chicks'. These wigs were used greatly to completely top off the transformation of the two male actors to be transferred into females.

Next I have chosen the film 'Mrs Doubtfire'. For this particular look a lace front wig was used to create the look and make it look more realistic.

Lastly I have chosen 'Alice in Wonderland'. I love the whole effect created from the use of this wig, it completely makes the character.

TASK 3

 

Q1 - What were your expectations on starting the course?
A   -  My expectations on starting the course was to meet new people while learning about the art of    makeup.

Q2 - What were your initial thoughts on WCS and the media makeup course?
A   -  My initial thoughts on WCS was that it is a really nice college to attend and that this is the best college to go to for studying makeup artistry.

Q3 - What is your funniest moment of college life so far?
A   -  There have been a lot of funny moments in college, but my favourite would have to be the day hazel was a model to get a wig fitted (she looked like a hobo).

Q4 - What is the most interesting thing you have learned or learned how to do so far?
A   - The most interesting thing I have learned will have to be special effects and how to make a prostethic wound to create all sorts of gross injuries with latex, wax, wound filler and fake blood.

Q5 - Who is your makeup idol?
A   -  There are a lot of different makeup artists that I admire varying from all different looks, my favourite at the moment would have to be Bobbi Brown.

Q6 - Why do you want to be a makeup artist?
A   - For as long as I can remember I have always loved the art of makeup, I really enjoy trying out different looks and the ability to completely change someones looks using special effects or even just face painting. At school art was my favourite subject, I enjoy being able to express myself through art.
